About the Artist

Largely self-taught oil painter Howard Ku was born in 1937 into a noted family of artists. His father Koo Tam Ming 1904-1973 was a Chinese art painter, an authenticator and a curator. Howard's sister Koo Mei 顧媚 an actress turned modern Chinese art master earned her fame in her own right. Howard's brother Joseph, Koo Ka-Fai 顧嘉煇 a well known music composer, conductor and now a sought-after oil painter as well. Howard has developed a passion for drawing at an early age. He began to concentrate on oil painting after his retirement in 2003. He loves to recapture everyday moments and turning them into memorable art. He particularly likes to use strong contrasts in his work. His paintings are in the collections of various homes including Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Canada, France, Germany and the United States.

 

Howard's paintings have been exhibited at Hong Kong City Hall, Richmond Art Gallery, Moncton Street Gallery, Chinese Cultural Center in Burnaby and Calgary, YVR (Vancouver International Airport),­­ Granville Island FCA Gallery, Vancouver Armstrong Lookout Gallery and others. 

 

Currently he is a member of RAG (Richmond Artists Guild), Richmond Art Gallery Association and a Juried member of FCA (Federation of Canadian Artists). In 2008 his painting “At the Cellar” received an Award of Excellence from the FCA Artist’s Choice Show.
